TOOL ROOM FILES

Squares and triangles are the most popular shapes for files. Grit size will control the finish and the time required to achieve the desired finish. File shape should be chosen with attention to the size of the area to be honed, and the size to provide the tightest fit. The shape with the tightest fit should be selected. Finer grits will give a better finish but take longer to remove material. Rounds and half rounds are for working with contoured surfaces. Half round shapes have the advantages of providing both flat and round surfaces. The same considerations for finishing apply here as with the squares and triangles. Oil treatment of stones and custom sizes are available on request.
